WebFeb 5, 2024 · Celebrated since 1952, the Ovar Carnival is one of the biggest events of its kind in Portugal. The opening ceremony takes place on January 28, with a show of the Brazilian rapper Marcelo D2, who performs at 10 pm at the Mercado Municipal de Ovar. Carnival of Ovar is a major Portuguese tourist event that takes place in Ovar, in the Aveiro Region. This event is organized in a modern fashion, since 1952. Because it attracts thousands of visitors every year, it eventually became the trademark event of the city. Mixing local traditions with Samba school parades (since 1983) it stands as one of the most traditional celebrations in Portugal. It is also, arguably, claimed as the best Carnaval in the country.
